The donation was made during a fundraising cultural event at the university, which aimed to raise K70 million for needy students. Speaking at the event, the party’s Vice President and guest of honor, Dr. Chikondi Mpokosa, emphasized the importance of supporting students in private institutions, stating that they are key contributors to Malawi’s Vision 2063.
“Students in private institutions also deserve financial support to achieve their academic goals, as they play a crucial role in shaping Malawi’s future,” Mpokosa said.
Innocent Gondwe, President of the University of Livingstonia-Laws Campus Student Union, said the event was organized to assist students struggling with tuition fees. He urged the Students Loans Board to expand its support to private university students.
“We aim to help about 35 students who are struggling with tuition fees. Students in private universities are not wealthy or failures; some were simply not selected through the NCHE process. However, they still contribute to national development after graduating,” Gondwe said.
The University of Livingstonia-Laws Campus is recognized as one of the country’s leading private universities which is located in Rumphi, in the northern Malawi.
