One of the politicians in Karonga District, Lenard Lenzo Kiyombo, who was a member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has announced his retirement from active politics.

In a letter released on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Kiyombo said he had decided to retire from active politics with immediate effect to focus on his business enterprises.

Kiyombo thanked the people of Karonga District for their support and trust throughout his political journey, saying he had enjoyed a good relationship with them.

Kiyombo previously belonged to the United Transformation Movement (UTM) before joining the MCP, where he had expressed interest in contesting for the parliamentary seat in the Karonga Songwe Constituency.
