Fast Networks Africa today brought together girls, young people and community members at Maghemo Secondary School grounds in Karonga for an engaging girls’ health and empowerment event aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of early marriages and encouraging girls to remain focused on their education and future.
The event provided a platform for girls to openly discuss issues affecting their health and well-being, while also giving them an opportunity to educate and encourage one another on the importance of making informed decisions about their lives.
The event also used sport and other activities to bring the community together, creating an environment where girls could interact, learn from one another and openly engage on issues that affect them.
Speaking during the event, Fast Networks Africa Programmes Manager Win Mwase described the community response as impressive, saying she was encouraged by the large number of people who turned up to support the initiative.
Mwase said the large turnout was particularly encouraging because this was the first time Fast Networks Africa had organised a girls’ trophy event.
He also said that the positive response demonstrated that communities are ready to support initiatives that create safe and meaningful spaces for girls to discuss their challenges and learn about issues that affect their lives.
At this event Fast Networks Africa also organize the Netball bonaza for four teams and Maghemo Stars emerged champions after defeating Hardnockers 34 baskets to 20
