Karonga Town Constituency Member of Parliament Honourable Daniel Mwanyongo Chitonya has questioned the Minister of Homeland Security over the long-delayed completion of a police housing project in his constituency.

Hon. Chitonya revealed that 15 police houses at Ipyana remain incomplete.

He added that the situation is forcing many police officers to live far from their workstations, which is severely affecting their ability to perform duties effectively.

In response, Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhito told Parliament that his ministry could not provide further answers because the project falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Lands.

Chitonya has since indicated he would meet with officials from the Ministry of Lands to push for the speedy completion of the houses.

The police housing project at Ipyana was launched in 2020 by former President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, the initiative aims to provide decent accommodation for police officers to improve their welfare and service delivery.
