Daniel Mwanyongo Chitonya, the Member of Parliament for Karonga Town, urged the collaboration of Karonga Chiefs Council and Karonga Civil Society Organization (KACSON) in calling for rehabilitation of Karonga -Chiweta M1 road.

Chitonya said the backing of the chiefs demonstrate that the call represents collective voice of Karonga residents after him as member of Parliament for Karonga Town Constituency has already make appealed in Parliament to request the Government allocated funds in the 2026/2027 national budget for the rehabilitation if the M1 road from Chiweta to Karonga.

Chitonya emphasizing that the poor state of the road is full of potholes which is hindering economic activities and safety.

As of now the government through Malawi Road Authority has commenced the procurement process for the rehabilitation of the 105 kilometers Chiweta -Karonga M1 road.
