Mwenifumbo made the remarks in Parliament while presenting a report on the Malawi Parliament delegation’s participation in the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States African Regional Parliamentary Group meeting held in Ezulwini, Eswatini, from May 7 to 14, 2026

.

His presentation came as Parliament concluded the third meeting of the 52nd Parliament session on Friday, August 7, 2026. The sitting had originally been scheduled to end on July 31 but was extended by one week to allow lawmakers to complete outstanding business.

Mwenifumbo said the assembly discussed ways of strengthening economic cooperation and trade between the European Union and OACPS member states under the renewed partnership framework.

He said the assembly also reviewed the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative, which seeks to mobilise up to €300 billion globally by 2027, including a dedicated €150 billion package for Africa.

Mwenifumbo added that Malawi needed to take advantage of such initiatives to attract investment, promote trade and support economic development.
