Speaking after the handover, Chitonya said he stepped in because the facility is facing serious shortages of essential supplies required by both patients and health workers.
The items, which include chlorine, gloves, mops, soap, hand sanitiser, methylated spirit, gumboots and other necessities, are meant to help the hospital maintain a clean and conducive environment.
While acknowledging that the hospital continues to grapple with many challenges, Chitonya pledged to offer further assistance whenever resources become available.
He also revealed plans to renovate the facility, including the construction of a maternity wing that would allow the hospital to start admitting patients.
Hospital Director Bellings Mwenikiwombwe welcomed the donation, describing it as timely given the current difficulties.
He noted that the facility is still struggling with a shortage of healthcare workers and inadequate staff housing problems that require urgent attention.
